While the fans of Man United are basking in the ambiance of new signing Romelu Lukaku, the Club is ensuring that before the new season kicks off, they would have a team with no contract issues.
Manchester United have announced a deal for goalkeeper Joel Pereira after the player dotted the Is and Ts on new four-year contract. He signed a four-year contract and has an option of a year’s extension.
The Swiss born goalie joined Man United after a successful trail spell at their Academy. He was handed his Premier League debut for the Red Devils by Jose Mourinho on the last game of season when they took on Crystal Palace, but he had gotten a first team experience in United FA Cup game against Wigan.
The 21-year-old has been developing progressively and Jose Mourinho seem to be impressed with the shot-stopper. Speaking after the contract was signed, the Portugal international said:
“I have been at United for a number of years now and since the first day here I have enjoyed every minute.
“Over the last season I feel I have made great progress as a goalkeeper and this will stand me in good stead for continuing my development as a Manchester United player.
“There have been many memorable moments for me at this club; however, making my debut for the first team at Old Trafford was unbelievable for me and my family.
“I want to thank the manager and his coaching team for the help and guidance they have given me and I look forward to playing a part in the squad for many years to come.”
In the perking order of goalkeepers for Man United, Pereira is third and he’s obviously not ready for first team football but the increasing report linking David De Gea back to his native Club Real Madrid means he could soon become second choice for Jose Mourinho.
Meanwhile, Wayne Rooney has departed Man United and he will be lacing his boots for his boyhood Club Everton next season.
