Arsenal have been able to preserve the culture of nurturing and transforming talented youngsters into professionals by handing them the opportunity to shine. Most young players have favoured joining Arsenal given Arsene Wenger’s ideology.
Arsenal have been heavily involved in the current transfer window and Arsene Wenger has not come-off the market yet. According to latest report, former Chelsea defender Zech Medley has put pen to paper on his first professional contract with Arsenal after coming through the academy of Arsenal.
Confirming the report, the 17-year old centre-back made bare his mind on the Gunners official website, stating that he is not relenting in his effort to cement a place in the first team of Arsenal’s under 18.
“I’m working hard to cement a spot in the under-18s and improving my all-round game, especially heading, tackling and positioning,”
Arsenal currently have a plethora of centre-backs at the Club – the likes of Laurent Koscielny, Shkodran Mustafi, Per Mertesacker, Calum Chambers and even Calum Chambers are all very active in the game and may be around for the foreseeable future. However Medley is not a player for the now but he could eventually break into the team like Iwobi has done and become fans favourite.
Medley started his career with Fulham, then he joined Chelsea before jumping the ship to sign for Arsenal. It just could be that he fancies Arsenal youth program as Chelsea hardly gives chances to their academy product.
“I came to Arsenal because I wasn’t getting the game time with Chelsea. I arrived last October on a trial and after two weeks I was told that Arsenal were happy to sign me.” Medley said.
