Crystal Palace have announced the signing of Chelsea player Ruben Loftus Cheek on a season long loan move, reports Sky sports.
The central midfielder failed to nick a permanent place in the team of Antonio Conte but has been able to gulp 32 career appearances for the Blues. He will continue his development at Selhurst Park under Dutch manager Frank De Boer.
Loftus Cheek joined Chelsea’s academy at a tender age of eight and he was among the few players to ascend to the grades of the Club and play for the senior side. He made his debut for the Blues under the auspices of Jose Mourinho in 2014 when he replaced Cesc Fabregas for the last seven minutes of a Champions League game against Sportin Lisbon.
The midfielder was mainly deployed as a support striker for the Blues last term but he could not dislodge the likes of Pedro Rodriguez, Willian and Edan Hazard in the attacking position. The presence of a rock solid N’golo Kante and Matic gave him no chance in midfield either.
Chelsea are also in talks to sign French midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko which means, Conte has not included him in his immediate plan.
“I had the option of coming to Palace and I thought that it would be great for me,” Loftus-Cheek told the club’s official website.
“I live not too far away, I was born in Lewisham and Palace is good club so I thought it’s a good chance to play here and be a part of the team. They have a very strong team and I’d like to be a part of that this season.”
Loftus Cheek made six substitute appearances for Chelsea last season and his best bet at regular football is away from Stamford Bridge.
He joins a host of Chelsea players on loan away from the Stamford Bridge but the worry for majority of Chelsea fans is the fact that the youngsters of the Club are hardly given the chance to shine.
