There has been a dearth of transfer activities at Arsenal since the signing of Alexandre Lacazette. As much as the Gunners fans base are expecting Arsene Wenger to bolster his squad before the close of the transfer window, a major clear out of players from the club’s financial books is expected.
Argentina international and Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has joined Spanish side Gatafe on a season long loan deal, according to report.
Martinez joined Arsenal from his native club Independiente in 2010 but he has been able to break into the first team of the Gunners. He featured for Arsenal in the EFL Cup games last term and had two cameos in the Premier League too. However, he will be lacing his boots for Gatefe next term.
Despite his impressive and encouraging cameos for Arsenal, Martinez has remained third choice for Arsenal behind Petr Cech and David Ospina. Nonetheless, Arsene Wenger has tipped the 24-year-old shot-stopper to become the future no.1 for Arsenal.
This loan deal for Martinez becomes his second in three years, having spent the penultimate season at Wolverhampton Wanderers. His departure leaves Ospina as second choice to Petr Cech and Wenger will most likely promote a youngster as third choice.
Confirming his desire to man the in-between the sticks for Arsenal as first choice, Martinez said:
“I’m always trying to improve myself. If you want to play for Arsenal or be at the top level for many years, that’s what you need to do,” he told the club’s website.
“It’s in my blood to train hard. When you’re not in the squad and you have to train the day after, sometimes it’s hard because you want to be involved in the team and you want to play. I always tell myself, ‘The chance will come and I won’t let it run.’
We wish the lad well in his new adventure.
