Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has refused to sign a new deal at Arsenal and could be on his way out of the club, with Chelsea reportedly interested in him.
The midfielder’s future has been up in the air, and despite Arsene Wenger’s resolve to tie him down to the club, he has told told the French boss he prefers to move on.
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is interested in signing the England international and has been closely monitoring his situation at the Emirates Stadium.
According to Sky Sports, the Premier League champions will open talks with Arsenal next week over a deal for Oxlade-Chamberlain when they return from their pre-season tour.
Holding down a regular position in the Gunners team seems somehow difficult for the 23-year-old. He played in various positions last season, including the right-wing back.
But Hector Bellerin has already made that position his own, pushing him back to the central midfield where he has the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Granit Xhaka also ahead of him.
He has stated that he sees his future in the central midfield and believes moving to another club would pave way for that. However, with the signing of Tiemoue Bakayoko, a place in the Chelsea midfield may also not come easy.
Oxlade-Chamberlain joined Arsenal from Southampton in 2011 and has a year left on his contract. He has scored 20 goals in 194 appearances for the Gunners and won the FA Cup.
