Following Chelsea’s shambolic start in the Premier League, Antonio Conte has been handed a whopping £130million transfer war chest to improve his squad.
The Blues are looking to reinforce one or two areas of their squad before the close of the window and reports have indicated that Danny Drinkwater could be the next new boy for the Blues.
Chelsea had made an offer for the former Man United midfielder but Leicester City rebuffed the offer and now the Premier League Champions are willing to pay £25million(€28million) for 27-year-old star, reports the Express.
The Blues are currently thread bare in the middle of the pack having sold Nemanja Matic to Manchester United, and new boy Tiemoue Bakayoko is on the recovery pane from injury. Drinkwater will be signed not as replacement for Matic but he will provide options for Conte in midfield.
Chelsea fans view the current move as a huge step down especially as Conte allowed Matic to leave and Drinkwater is not in the same class as the Serbian. Matc was a stand-out performer United in their impressive win over West Ham on Sunday and that has taunted the Blues fans.
Drinkwater is interested in the move to Stamford Bridge but he will be below the likes of N’golo Kante, Fabregas and Tiemoue Bakayoko in the selection pecking order.
Chelsea need to sign more players but those reinforcement should come on the wings and attacking midfield position.
