All summer Chelsea have been linked with a summer move for one player to another, but it now looks as though the fans would see one of their favourite defender leave this summer, as per reports from English Source
The Sun runs a report that the Blues are set to welcome a bid from Juventus for star defender Gary Cahill, as they view the Englishman as a reliable option for Leonardo Bonucci who switched to fellow Italian side AC Milan.
Further report from the same source says that Juve are eager to take Cahill on a season-long loan with the option of making the switch permanent in a £16.5m deal. The 31-year-old defender has a valid contract at Stamford Bridge until the summer of 2019 but could yet leave since he looks more of an outsider in Antonio Conte’s plans for the new season.
He got red carded for his troubles in the League opener against Burnley which has led many fans to call for his head. Conte played a 3-man defence of Cesar Azpilicueta, Antonio Rudiger and Christensen againstTottenham Hotspurs and the trio were quite solid, and should Chelsea succeed in signing Southampton’s CB Virgil van Dijk, it would further cast Cahill down the pecking order of defenders.
Juventus futile pursuit of defenders this summer is well documented, as they have failed in their quest to sign Jerome Boateng and Diego Godin, but they may have found their man in Cahill if Conte sanctions the move for his former club
