Deal close: Man United advance talks for the transfer of League record holder

We have all held our breath until Romelu Lukaku’s deal to Man United was confirmed, the player has reportedly completed medical with us last week but official became a Man United player on Monday.

Away from the hassles of incoming transfers, Man United goalie Sam Johnstone is on the verge of putting pen to paper on another loan deal with Aston Villa, reports ESPN.

Johnstones spent the second half of last season on loan at the Villa Park. He returned to Old Trafford in the summer but has been left out of Man United squad that traveled to the US ahead of the start of their pre-season tour – this is believed to enable him seal a deal with Steve Bruce’s men.

Aston Villa have been credited with interest for the player since the close of last season but his heroics in the Championship has seen other Clubs queuing for his signature. While at Villa Park last season, the goalie’s acrobatics earned him eight clean sheets, the highest in the Championship last season.

The 24-year-old joined Man United at the academy level in the 2010 season but he has failed to breakthrough to the first team of the Red Devils. He has sojourned Scunthorpe, Walsall, Yeovil, Doncaster, Preston and Villa on several loan spells.

Man United handed an improved contract to Joel Pereira, who is third on the selection perking order of goalkeepers at Old Trafford. Johnstones may have shown prospect but he will definitely not be wearing the gloves for Man United next season.
