Deal close: Chelsea to agree €79million deal for 31-goal lethal finisher
Chelsea have been slapped in the face by bitter EPL rivals Manchester United but they are not dwelling on their shortcomings though.
Having failed to beat United to the signing of Romelu Lukaku, Antonio Conte has been left fuming and only would be placated by the signing of a reliable striker as a fall-back option for Lukaku.
This has seen the Blues rummaging for a prolific pair of legs for their attack, short-listing every player who has managed to score in his last game. The likes of Alvaro Morata and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang happen to make that list but it is the latter that is being considered at the moment.
Conte’s craving for a reliable striker nudged him to send a farewell text to Diego Costa, and with the Spain international now reported to be set for an exit from Stamford Bridge, it is Aubameyang who is mooted to replace the supposed outgoing striker.
Aubameyang have etched his name into the footballing folklore with his prolific performances for Dortmund, last season he continued in similar form with 31 goals 2 assists in 32 Bundesliga appearances. He may not come cheap considering how important he is for Dortmund, but a fee in the region of £70 million would likely convince them to sell.
According to Skysport reporter, Kaveh Solhekol, Chelsea have been offered the chance to sign the player.
“Now to another striker who is in demand,” Solhekol said.
“We are hearing this morning that Chelsea have been offered the chance to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
“He was the top scorer in Germany last season.
“He can leave Dortmund this summer for £70m (€79m).”
Should Chelsea seal this deal, they will be considered the big winners in the summer transfer window since Lukaku’s stats pales in comparison to what the Gabon international boasts of in Dortmund colours.
