Deal close: Chelsea advance talks to seal £25m deal for Tottenham target

The Premier League kicks off later tonight but Chelsea have unfinished business in the transfer window as Antonio Conte is still plotting to bolster his squad before the window is slammed shut.

According to latest report making the rounds, Chelsea have emerged as favourite to sign Portugal international and Valencia right wing back Joao Cancelo.

Antonio Conte has been in the market for defensive reinforcement but all his efforts to get one has proved abortive. Chelsea were heavily linked with a move for Danilo but the star favoured a move to Manchester City, and despite offers made for Italian winger Candreva, Inter Milan have refused to let go off the Italian winger.

Cancelo has now emerged as top target for Conte and the report claims Tottenham, who are also interested, are unwilling to meet the £25million asking price for the player, leaving Chelsea as favourite to land the star.

Chelsea are currently short of options for their wing back positions and Conte is looking to give Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso competition on the flanks.

The Mirror claims Chelsea entered bidding for the 23-year-old wing back and the deal could even be completed sooner than later.

We understand that Chelsea have been keeping tabs on the defender for a while and Conte is really keen on him.

Chelsea have seen their transfer activities stalled since the signing of Alvaro Morata and Conte has bemoaned the dearth of transfer activities at the club.
