Deal close: Arsenal sanction record deal for in-demand Chelsea target, Wenger keen on deal

Barring the signing of new players for Arsenal, there is currently a dilemma which involves players running out their current contract and playing hardball to sign deals offered to them.’

England international Alex Oxlade Chamberlain has headlined the media wave of Arsenal recently and the Gunners may be forced to sell the star as he has refused to accept the offers made for him. According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal have offered Chamberlain a whopping  £180,000-a-week deal, with the hope the the versatile star will accept the offers and put pen to paper on a new deal.

Chamberlain is 12 months left to run down his current contract with Arsenal and he has rebuffed all the offers made for him. However, he was scheduled to meet with Arsene Wenger and Ivan Gazidis on Thursday to thrash out his future but nothing has been heard of the meeting.

The versatile star has been on the radar of Chelsea and Liverpool, with the London club failing to land him in a £25m move. However, Chelsea are believed to be preparing another improved offer of £35m, with the hope that the star would agree to leave Arsenal.

According to the report, Chamberlain will likely turn down the offer the Gunners have tabled for him, even though he’ll become the highest earner at Arsenal if he agrees to sign the deal. Wenger reiterated that Chamberlain, Ozil and Sanchez would not be sold and he has maintained the same stance.

With no breakthrough in sight, Arsenal risk losing Chamberlain on a free transfer next summer.
