Arsene Wenger seem to have woken up from slumber. Time was when the French tactician failed to spend as much his rivals did and that has to an extent account for why the Premier League title has remained a pipe dream for the Gunner over the last decade.
Arsenal fans can brace themselves because they have the best news of the transfer window. Alexandre Lacazette is currently undergoing medical with Arsenal at the London Colney training ground, after which he is expected to put pen to paper on five-year deal.
Arsenal have been on the chase of the player since last summer. Untypical of Wenger, he did not give up on signing Lacazette as he offered £39.5m for the player’s signature this summer. Lyon rebuffed it and the Gunners had no choice than to agree to meet the player’s £52m valuation.
His deal eclipses the £42.5m Arsenal paid to Real Madrid for Mesut Ozil’s transfer in the summer of 2015. An announcement for the deal is expected to be made within the next 48 hours and he will join Arsenal as the most valuable player in time for their pre-season tour in Australia and china.
Lacazette has seen his stock rise since the penultimate season. Last season was his best with Les Gones hitherto where he scored 37 goals in 45 games in all competitions. He will certainly be a handful to defenders of the Premier League.
His signing will inadvertently raise questions over the future of his compatriot Oliver Giroud.
