The Arsenal fans have looked away as a transfer target has chosen to sign for Italian giants AC Milan ahead of a possible move to the Emirates stadium.
The Italians are on a mission this summer, where they are willing to spend over €200 million for a major summer overhaul. They have made five signings so early in the transfer window, with Arsenal target Hakan Calhanoglu being the sixth.
Calhanoglu has completed a transfer worth €25 million from German side Bayern Leverkusen. However, it is the player’s slipping through our hands that has been the bone of contention amongst the Gunners.
The 23-year-old, who has been likened to Mesut Ozil, was the player adjudged to bolster our attacking midfield position, moreso since the reported injury setback to Santi Cazorla which has been squashed by the player himself.
We performed woefully last season and it is no accident that it coincided with the injury to Cazorla in October. The Spain international has been our creative hub from midfield and since his ankle injury the likes of Aaron Ramsey have failed to carry the creative burden effectively.
Although we are currently inundated with talents in the midfield, there is need to sign a replacement in Cazorla’s position who is also of the same quality and could also take the set pieces. If truly we need such player then we have missed him in Calhanoglu.
Despite serving a four month ban from February, he still managed to record 11 goals and 8 assists for Leverkusen.
The transfer is still at its infancy though, Arsene Wenger could yet surprise us all.
