Arsenal young debutant bright Bukayo Saka has been compared to five time Balon D’or winner Cristiano Ronaldo, by former Liverpool man Michael Owen.
Unai Emery heavily tweaked his team for the Europa League game against Qarabag last night and among the starters were Saka, who was handed his Arsenal debut.
Arsenal were already top of their group before the game, making the encounter against Qarabag merely ceremonial.
Saka was the highlight of the game for Arsenal. His performance was nothing short of impressive. Although he started the game low on confidence but he grew in it and played like an experienced personality.
Owen spoke about how impressed he was with the display of the rising star during and after the match even though he did not get on the score sheet.
“That was a brilliant interview,” Owen said. “He handled himself great and he played great as well.
“He looked really nervous at the start of the game, myself and Martin were both talking about it.
“But he certainly grew into the game. Just him having the courage to run at players was really refreshing to see.
“Some of the skill… I watched Ronaldo doing this the other day for Juventus.
“It’s absolutely brilliant and so unlucky that it wasn’t given a goal.
“He’s just different class and by the end of the game, his confidence was oozing.
“I just wish that he hadn’t gone for power here [when one-on-one with the goalkeeper].”
Unai Emery was also pleased with the show-off of Saka and he said of the 17-year-old
“We give them these chances in games like today, when we can do that, and they show us every match positive things,” he said.
“Today Saka also showed a good performance with a very big personality.
