Chelsea completed the transfer of Nemanja Matic from the Club on Monday and his departure has left the club scrapping for a player that will replace the out-gone Serbian tough-tackling midfielder.

Danny Drinkwater emerged as a surprise target for the Blues today but Chelsea have had a long standing interest Portuguese star Renato Sanches and it appears that Seria side AC Milan  are on the cusp of landing the player in a £44.7million move, according to the Metro.

Chelsea locked horns with Bayern Munich in a pre-season game in the far East and Antonio Conte had enquired over Sanches’ availability after the game.

Sanches joined the Bundesliga Champions last season from Benfica but he has failed to impose himself in the team of the Bavarians. He managed just 17 cameos under Ancelotti last season and most of his cameos came from the bench.

Bayern Munich signed James Rodriguez from Real Madrid on loan this season and that has left Sanches with no choice than to consider his future. Bayern Munich want the player to leave on a loan move but the 19-year-old is looking to seal a permanent deal with AC Milan.

The offer made for the player has been rebuffed and Bayern Munich manager Carlo Ancelotti has ruled out the sale of the player.

‘On Renato, there’s no news,’ said Ancelotti

‘He’s started the season with us and he’ll stay with us until the end of the transfer window, on August 31. He played well in our last game.’

Conte was heavily criticised for allowing Matic leave for Man United. He is in search for a midfielder that will replacement the Serbian.
