Gary Cahill has slipped down the pecking order since Sarri’s appointment as head coach in August.
The England’s international future is up in the air at Chelsea. And making fewer appearances this season is a strong indication he is not part of Maurizio Sarri’s long term plan.
Cahill was a crucial element in Conte’s two-year stint at Stamford Bridge. However, his appearances on the pitch this season has diminished drastically.
It is understood the defender is unhappy with how things have tossed out this season.
So far, the 32-year-old has featured five times for the Blues this season. Cahill has two Premier League appearances, two Europa League appearances and one League Cup appearance.
But his forlorn figure on the field shows he is unhappy with the stats and wants regular football.
There are knots of tension surrounding his future at Chelsea. Suggestions floating around say Cahill will quit playing for the Blues if he’s not injected back into the team and allowed to play more minutes on the pitch.
Southampton have registered their interests in the 32-year-old according to the Mirror, and given his luxury of experience in the Premier League, he’s sure to definitely nail a spot in Mark Hughes squad if he leaves Chelsea in January.
Cahill racked up 52 appearances in all competitions last season for both Chelsea and England. The 32-year-old has also been linked with Manchester United.
