Reliable Chelsea defender Ceaser Azpilicueta wants Maurizio Sarri to officially hand him the club’s Captaincy instead of Eden Hazard, this is according to reports.
Since Sarri took charge of the helms of Chelsea, they have been in fine form and the manager has earned so much plaudits for being able to impose his style on the club.
He has led Chelsea to a barnstorming Premier league start, including five wins and two draws in the League thus far and they have been named as one of the favourites for the title.
However, Chelsea have been playing without their Captain Gary Cahill since the start of the season but Sarri is poised to name a new man as replacement for the aforementioned legendary defender. The Italian manager revealed he would speak with the brass of the club before making any announcement.
‘I want to speak with my club face to face before I tell you my decision. I think it’s right the club knows my decision before the journalists,’ said Sarri. ‘It has been impossible in the last two or three weeks, but I think it will be possible next week.’
Since joining Chelsea from Marseille in the summer of 2010, Azpilicueta has consistently proven his mettle and leadership qualities. He has played across the back positions and he is currently the outright owner of the right wing back position.
According to the Telegraph, The 29-year-old Spaniard is ranking higher than Hazard in the race for the Blues’ Captaincy and he has asked to be handed the arm band.
