David Luiz was confirmed to be angling for a move away from Chelsea this summer.
The 31-year-old who returned to Chelsea for the second time in 2016, had a staggering spell under former boss Antonio Conte last season.
Until now, it had not be revealed that Chelsea were ready to give up on the centre-back after his bitter fall out with Conte last season.
According to reports milling out of Italian news outlet Calciomercato, Chelsea had readied themselves to sell Luiz to some Italian clubs this summer.
The report said that Napoli and Juventus were mooted to be in line for his services and Chelsea would have budged to his sale, to either clubs..
But with David Luiz getting more time on the pitch, amid being heavily linked to Napoli eight weeks ago, it looks unlikely he will be axed from Sarri’s squad.
The Brazilian international has won Sarri’s heart and admiration, having been picked ahead of an aging but experienced Gary Cahill, Andreas Christensen and Ethan Ampadu in the Italian’s quartet backline.
Nonetheless, it is hard to rule out Chelsea getting a backup in January. Juventus Daniele Rugani was linked with a move to Stamford Bridge this summer, and despite a botched transfer, the Blues may raid Turin for the star.
David Luiz has started all six games for Chelsea this season under Maurizio Sarri.
