David Luiz has remained the heartbeat of Chelsea defence. He is the spine of Maurizio Sarri’s backline. Luiz laid on the flighted pass that found Pedro from more than 40 yards. However, the Brazil international’s future is still hanging in the clouds.
Luiz will turn 32 in April and his current deal at Chelsea is set to run out at the end of the season.
Talks were said to have commenced over extending his stay at Stamford Bridge, but it was understood negotiations collapsed.
Luiz wants to remain at Chelsea, but wants to be assured of a long term future at the club.
However, his representative Kia Joorabchian, is confident they can work out something good for the centre-back.
Joorabchian added that Sarri wants the Brazilian defender to remain at the club.
“We are in a very amicable situation with Chelsea.
“We are trying to work out a deal for David Luiz because he wants to stay, the manager wants him to stay and so does the club. I’m sure something will be worked out.” Joorabchian said.
Chelsea are fourth on the Premier League log after their laboured win over Newcastle last weekend.
The Blues now have a tight grip on the top four, and have also been credited with interests in Zenit St Petersburg’s midfielder Leandro Peredes, tabling a newly improved bid £31.2m.
