Cagliari’s Nicollo Barella is on Chelsea’s hit-list of January signing as the seek a replacement for the departing Cesc Fabregas.
The Spanish midfielder is set to join Monaco on a permanent basis since joining from city rivals Arsenal three years ago.
21-year-old Barella has been targeted as the Spaniard replacement. Fabregas is set to leave Stamford Bridge after talks crashed over extending his deal at the club.
Boss Maurizio Sarri is unhappy about the new development after admitting Fabregas is one of the major strengths in his midfield, likening the former Arsenal man to his master creator Jorginho.
Talks is said to have reached an advanced stage with Monaco over hiring the midfielder’s services on a permanent basis.
Meanwhile, Sarri has sounded out that the midfielder should be replaced if Chelsea do not intend to keep him for the long haul.
Barella has been capped four times for Italy and has a made a tote of 20 Serie A appearances for Cagliari who are 13th on the log.
The midfielder was debuted on October for the Italian team.
Barella could cost the Blues as much as 45 million pounds should they continue to press Cagliari for his services.
