Chelsea in pole position to complete deal for star defender with €40m release clause

Premier League Champions Chelsea are reportedly in another move for a new defender despite the acquisition of Emerson Palmieri from AS Roma in the closing stages of the January transfer window.

With Marcos Alonso set to leave Stamford Bridge this summer for a new club who would be featuring in next season’s Champions League competition, Chelsea are reportedly ready to reignite their interest in Porto defender Alex Telles.

The Blues made a €20m move for the defender last winter but it was rejected by the Portuguese league giants who claimed that the offer was too small comparing to the player’s ability and contributions to their team.

According to A Bola, Chelsea could be doubling their bid for the 25-year-old’s signature this summer due to the €40m release clause in his contract with Porto. Alex Telles has been phenomenal for Porto throughout the campaign and he is eyeing a spot in Brazil World Cup list.

Though it is yet unknown who would eventually win the race to becoming Conte’s replacement, Abramovich is convinced that with the addition of one or two players— including Telles— the Blues could lay claim for the League trophy next season.

While reacting to rumors linking Telles to Chelsea, Fernando Otto – the plaiagent- told reporters that he would love to see his client plays for the West London Club any time soon.
