Chelsea and Manchester City are weighing on a deal for Belgium and Tottenham Centre-back Toby Alderweireld, according to reports.
Alderweireld has struggled to feature this season as he has been battling with a niggling injury. However, Chelsea are said to be his long-term admirers and they are weighing in on a deal for him in the summer.
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino dropped the 28-year-old star from his Champions League squad that will play Juventus and that has stirred rife speculation over the player’s future.
While Chelsea are heavily linked with a move for the tough-tackling centre-back, the Guardian reports that Pep Guardiola will also tempt the star to join him at the Etihad in the summer.
Manchester City just bolstered their central defense with the signing of Aymeric Laporte but Guardiola is looking to add more steel to his back line. The uncertainty over the future of Vincent Kompany has prompted the Citizens to be on the search of a centre-back, and Alderweireld could be the man.
Antonio Conte has claimed that he is a three world class players short of having a formidable squad and the central defence is an area he is looking at.
The Belgian defender is in the final year of his contract with Tottenha but they have an option of extending it by a year. Failure to do so may see another Club activate his £25.4million release clause.
