Manchester City are attempting to leapfrog Premier League rivals Chelsea and Liverpool in the race to sign Lyon star Houssem Aouar.
Manchester City are gradually slipping off the pace in their hunt to retain the Premier League title this campaign. The Mancunians dropped to third on the log after Foxes thumped the Citizens 2-1 at the King Power Stadium on Wednesday.
City are slacking, and are one point adrift second-placed Tottenham.
Houssem Aouar is understood to have caught the eyes of Pep Guardiola and the Spaniard is keen on signing the young Frenchman at the turn of the year.
City have taken bigger strides than Chelsea and Liverpool in the chase for Aouar. Reports in Spanish publication Calciomercato, as cited in Sky Sports say that City have ready, a staggering 60 million euros to offer to Lyon for Aouar.
Fernandinho needs to be replaced and Guardiola eyes Aouar as the perfect replacement for the Brazilian who is nearing a decline.
Liverpool and Chelsea are understood to still have interest in the Ligue One star as they each have the youngster on their radars.
The Reds are six points and seven points adrift second-placed Tottenham and third-placed City respectively. Chelsea are 11 points adrift Liverpool and four points off third place.
