Chelsea may be smarting over missing out on Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United. However, they are not dwelling on their losses though.
According to Spanish source AS, the Blues are keen on signing Real Madrid’s striker Alvaro Morata. The Blues were slow in sanctioning Lukaku’s transfer but are desperate not to repeat similar mistake this summer, as a result it is reported that they are on the cusps of placing a £70.9 million bid for Morata who told his close pals that he was close to a United switch this summer.
However, minutes after Romelu Lukaku’s transfer Man United was confirmed, Real Madrid has asked Chelsea to to fork out £80m for the players. This is according to the Express.
Chelsea are in need of a striker, as the future of Diego Costa hangs by the thread, more so the Blues qualification to the UEFA Champions League means that there is the need to sign another pair of legs in their striking department.
The likes of Pedro and Michy Batshuayi are not to be relied upon for goals. Since the permanent transfer of Didier Drogba from Chelsea in 2012, the Blues have not been able to sign a striker who could post similar records as the Ivorian star.
However, Morata could yet be that player, having recorded 15 League goals and 4 assists despite making just 14 starts in the La Liga.
Madrid president Florentino Perez is eyeing AS Monaco striker Kylian Mpappe who is valued at over £100 million, hence he could yet sanction the move for Morata to Chelsea if a concrete offer is made.
