Real Madrid and Spain striker Marco Asensio is reportedly set to join Chelsea in the summer should Zinedine Zidane remain as the Galacticos manager beyond this season.
The youngster and the Frenchman are not having the best of relationships as Zidane has shown little faith in Asensio’s quality despite impressive performances from the youngster so far this season.
According to Spanish media outlet Diario Gol, the 22-year-old is not content with his status as a fringe player in the star-studded Madrid team and he is hoping to move to another club where his potential will be maximally utilized.
Asensio has featured in just 13 matches for the Los Blancos so far this season. Despite the little time he’s spent on the pitch, he already has six goals and four assists.
The 22-year-old striker has been on Chelsea’s radar since last winter, but the Blues failed in their attempt to snatch him from Santiago Bernabeu.
It was sometimes reported via Daily Mirror that Manchester United are monitoring the player’s condition under Zidane’s watch but nothing materialised as they opted for Arsenal’s Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez instead.
Diairo Gol also reports that the youngster has been doing everything to convince Zidane that he deserves much playing-time time, but the Frenchman didn’t seem to trust him as he shows huge faith in his front three — Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema.
