Bid tabled: La Liga super star snubs contract with club to agree Man United deal

Manchester United have received a massive boost to sign French and Barcelona centre-back Samuel Umtiti, after the player gave the Bluagrana side a tough condition to extend his contract, according to reports.

Umtiti has been a consistent figure at the Camp Nou since he was signed from Lyon in the summer of 2016 in a  €25 million deal.

His current contract is scheduled to expire in 2021 but he has stalled over a new deal offered to him by Barcelona. Don Balon have claimed that the 24-year-old centre-back wants a significant pay rise to remain at Camp Nou else he will join Manchester United.

Manchester United are not short of defenders in their squad but they are poised to let go off the likes of Daley Blind, Matteo Darmian and possibly Phil Jones but not without signing  replacements for them in the summer.

According to the report, Mourinho is a big fan of Umtiti and he has asked the brass of the club to pay out his  £53m buy-out clause this summer.

Umtiti has given Barcelona one month to decide on his over £7m-per-annum demand while United have also had their offers for him on the table.

However, according to the coach of Barcelona, Ernesto Valverde , the centre-back will pen a new deal at the Club sooner than later.

“Umtiti is a great player and we expect him to stay at Barca for many more years and for him to enjoy his football with us,” he said.

“To an extent, the buyout clause is made high so that you can’t buy the player.

“But, as time goes by, that fee doesn’t seem so high at all.

“But the player still has to want to leave.

“We’re very happy with Umtiti and I’m sure he’s going to stay here for a very long time.”
