It would be incredibly hard for Manchester United to offload Chilean winger Alexis Sanchez. United are nowhere close to finding a home for their highest paid player. The former Gunners forward who joined in 2017 has struggled to hold a spot in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team and his form has been hampered by strings of knocks, the latest happening inside his knee.
A return to former club Barcelona has been touted as likely to happen this summer. Sanchez shone during his stint at the Catalonia outfit, banging 47 goals in 141 games for the Spanish football heavyweights.
But Barcelona do not have enough space to accommodate him. The La Liga toppers have rejected the chance to sign the 30-year-old back. In addition, they are shying away from the load of having to churn out a huge wage cheque every week.
While that is enough reason to blow him off, Barcelona have already splurged north of 60 million pounds to sign Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong and the youngster is expected to join them in the summer.
United is squared in a tough fight and that’s the decision to keep or let go of Sanchez. Though there’s thought to be another option on the cards.
If Sanchez agrees to take a wage cut it could ease things for United and lift off some amount of load on the finances.
