Arsene Wenger takes a sly dig at Jose Mourinho over 6th place finish & UCL qualification

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has taken a sly dig at Jose Mourinho, with claims that the Europa winners do not belong to the Champions League, this is according to report.

Manchester United had a shambolic season in the Premier League and fell below top four at the close of the season but they had the advantage of an outside chance for Champions League qualification through the Europa League. The Red devils grabbed the opportunity and conquered the second tier of European club competition.

Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger also led Arsenal to a poor season after he failed to lead the Gunners to Champions League qualification for the first time in his Arsenal career. The Gunners finished the League in fifth position, six points above their capital rival Man United and will feature in the Europa League.

While Arsenal will be playing every Thursdays in the Europa Cup, Man United have returned to the holy grail of European club football but Wenger is against this method of qualification.

“I was always against it,” Wenger told the Evening Standard.

“Because apart from Man United, who did win the Europa League?

“All the years before it was always a team who was kicked out of the Champions League by having been kicked out of it before.

“You cannot go into the season and think that [you will get into the Champions League by winning the Europa League]. I always was not in favour of that.

“I think at some stage it can influence on the championship.

“If a team is in April in a position where they have more chance to win the Europa League they can let some games go in the championship, and not completely focus on that, on the regularity of the competition.

“I will always play a team that has a good chance to win the next game. In the Europa League if we can afford sometimes to rest some players we will do it.

“But we have to adapt to the level of the competition and see first what kind of group we play in.”

Arsenal will join up in the Europa League competition in mid September, as they will join up in the group stage . Does Arsene Wenger’s submission mean he will not take the competition seriously? He has revealed that he will not field his first team players for the competition.

Arsenal have failed to win the Premier League for over 12 years, this also present Arsene Wenger a unique opportunity to conquer the elusive League.
