Arsenal may look off the pace in the transfer window but Arsene Wenger’s latest remark reeks of contentment as he feels he has full control of his squad.
Philippe Coutinho blantantly requested that he wants to complete his dream move to Barcelona but, despite the Catalans lodging a bid in the region of £90 million for the Brazilian, the Liverpool hierarchy chose to toss their offer into the dustpan.
Arsenal have a similar scenario in the sense that Alexis Sanchez has refused to sign a new contract. He has been strongly linked to Paris Saint-Germain in his quest for UEFA Champions League football. The Chile international’s twitter location suggested that he was in Paris over the weekend which he quickly deleted.
Arsenal have not been able to convince the 28-year-old to sign a new contract but ranks low on Wenger’s priority list as he feels the star’s focus remains at Arsenal despite having less than a year to run on his current Arsenal contract.
Arsene fielding questions on how he feels having not been served a transfer request from the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Alexis Sanchez, aimed a sly dig at the Jurgen klopp’s side.
“Are you glad you haven’t had Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Alexis Sanchez hand in a transfer request like Philippe Coutinho?” a journalist asked.
To which Arsene Wenger replied: “Yes, I am very happy about that.
“It’s important you have a serene atmosphere inside and clarity about your commitment.
“It’s important the players aren’t half in and half out and they are completely in.”
Apparently, Wenger hasn’t forgiven the Anfield landlords over the tweet made by Liverpool’s owner John W Henry in the summer of 2013. Henry’s tweet ‘What do you think they‘re smoking over there at Emirates?’ stemmed from Arsenal’s cheeky bid of £40 million plus £1 submitted by Arsenal for Luis Suarez.
