Arsenal are weighing in on a deal for Germany and Borrussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Weigl, this is according to reports.
Weigl started his career with Bayern Munich before he opted to join Dortmund in the summer of 2015. Since his move, the 23-year-old had establish himself as a first team player. However, he has struggled to dislodge Axel Witsel and Thomas Delaney from the starting XI this term.
According to German tabloid,Weigl has been listed among the players who are up for sale in the January transfer window and it is widely claimed the Gunners will table a £68 million bid for the star.
The Gunners desire to sign the midfielder stems from the impending departure of Aaron Ramsey. Arsenal decided against giving the player a contract and he could leave the club as early as January.
Ramsey is currently the longest serving Arsenal player and the decision of the club to withdraw their offer for him has generated contrasting reaction.
Weigl is liken to Barcelona’s Sergio Busquets, with the player very well known for his ability to bridge the gap between defence and attack. He will be signed in the stead of Ramsey.
Arsenal’s main weakness is the backline – the Gunners should first fortify that area before the midfield.
