Arsenal to receive €35.6m for versatile attacker, Liverpool wants deal sealed
If there was anything that affected the Gunners more in the immediate past season, it was our leaky defense that allowed us conceded goals with reckless abandon. With a tweak in formation, the backline became more formidable and England international Alex-oxlade Chamberlain was a mainstay in that defense at that time.
For the fact that he used it to beat Manchester City and thump Chelsea, Arsene Wenger will retain the same tactics and he has to keep a major chunk of those players too. Chamberlain was Arsenal’s most improved player last season but Liverpool are keen on signing the player as they have prepared a whopping €35.6m (£40million) offer for the winger, per report.
Chamberlain like Ozil and Sanchez is being offered a new improved offer at Arsenal that will be see him earn £100,000-a-week but the Reds believe that can prise him away from the Emirates with a tempting offer. The 23-year-old is now in the final year of his contract and this offer by Liverpool has come timely.
Chamberlain can play as a central midfielder or on the wing. His versatility is one thing that is appealing to Jurgen Klopp, who has been a long term admirer of Chamberlain. Liverpool were among the teams with the most goals in the Premier League but their defense is leaky, hence, they need players that will help them retain ball possession, while they thick their midfield.
Arsenal’s failure to qualify for the Champions League is one thing that may affect their player’s future and Klopp is looking to bolster his squad as they prepare for the Holy Grail of European football next season.
