It’s eight days to the close of the transfer window, and more comings and goings are expected to happen this month.
Arsenal have reportedly been keeping tabs on Gelson Martins since moots floated about how discomfited he is at Atletico Madrid.
Martins joined the big La Liga side last summer from Sporting Lisbon, but has found fitting in extremely difficult. The player is distraughted about not grabbing the spotlight like he did at Lisbon and that has affected his performance altogether.
Martin has failed to nail a spot in Atleti and the club has grown utterly frustrated over his performance. They are looking to recoup the cash splurged on him last year, but the only option on the cards would be to farm the player out.
Arsenal can’t sign a new player permanently this term due to some limitations in their fund, but boss Unai Emery says the Gunners will take in loanees.
BBC’s David Ornstein revealed that Gunners had their eyes on making two loans deal before the window shuts on 31 Jan. Barcelona’s Denis Suárez is still on the cards, however, Arsenal are yet to near a deal on the other side of Europe. The second remains a mystery, but with Atleti keen on loaning Martins out, it won’t come as any surprise if he is their mystery target.
Martins has 8 appearances for Atleti in all competitions so far this campaign.
