Arsenal to activate  €11m exit clause of CB, Emery likes player

Arsenal are in pole position to sign Spanish and Valladolid centre-back Fernando Calero Villa, per reports.

The Gunners are reveling in the ambiance of a good form but their defence have let in more goals that all of the top five teams of the league – to compound their woes, Rob Holding picked up an injury and will not return to action until next season.

Arsenal only have two established centre-back at the moment and this poses a major threat to their top four ambition. Although Laurent Koscielny just returned to a long term injury, he is not fit to be thrusted into any big game.

In a bid to quell the imminent defensive crisis at club, Arsenal are weighing in on a deal for centre-back and it appears that Fernando Calero has caught the attention of Emery.

The 23-year-old centre-back will be available in the January transfer window for €11million £9.9million) due to a clause inserted in his contract.

Arsenal are not the only club to have noticed his impressive show-off in the La Liga this season. Cadena Ser claim Borrussia Dortmund and Sevilla are also interested in the sturdy defender.

Valladolid are sitting in 14th place on the La Liga table and despite handing the player a new deal, he has refused to sign. Arsenal can get him if they activate the said clause.
