Between 1998 – 2004 the English Premier League was dominated by Manchester United and Arsenal. Arsenal won the League three times while Manchester United had four wins within this period – ever since, winning the League has turned a pipe dream for the Gunners.
Arsene Wenger was highly rated and eulogised for not compromising on his free-flowing football ideology. Despite his meagre transfer war-chest, he was able to maintain high quality of play. Arsene Wenger never bothered himself with transfer tussles, he goes for quality players with modest price tags.
However, despite spending heavily in the last summer transfer window, this season for Arsenal has been the poorest in the last decade. Calls for Arsene Wenger’s resignation has grown following their despicable Champions League outing and their recent horrendous displays in the Premier League. The Gunners were knocked out 10-2(aggregate) by Bayern Munich in the UCL and they have lost to Watford and Westbrom in the EPL.
Pundits and fans expects Wenger to throw in the towel to the yearnings of Arsenal football world and call it quit and the end of this season. It appears that the French tactician has made up his mind to sign another contract – this was revealed by striker Lucas Peres when he spoke to Marca, according to reports on the Express.
Wenger is in the last year of his current contract but he has left everyone in the dark as to signing a new contract. Arsenal are fifth on the Premier League table and qualification for Champions League already looks bleak, he would not deserve another chance if he fails to make the top.
I hope he doesn’t sign another contract.
