France international defender Laurent Koscielny could see his contract terminated by the Arsenal board in the summer due to his continuous uninspiring display for the North London club throughout this season, according to reports.
The Frenchman alongside German veteran Per Mertesacker have conceded 41 goals in just 21 league matches this season and that hasn’t gone well with the club’s hierarchy who are willing to revamp their backline ahead of next season.
Though Koscielny still has two-and-a-half years left in his contract, he might be moving out of Emirates Stadium in the summer as the Gunners hope to render him in their cash-plus-player move for Atletico young centre-back Jose Gimenez.
Jose Gimenez, 23, has been strong at the back for the Spanish giants this season having established himself as the first choice center-back in Diego Simone’s team.
According to El Gol Digital, the Uruguayan defender has emerged as Arsenal’s top target in the summer as they hope to find a lasting solution to their woeful performances at the back of the pitch before the commencement of 2018-19 season.
The Spanish media outlet also suggested that Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone is a fan of Laurent Koscielny and he might want to work with the Frenchman next season.
Atletico are yet to show their willingness to let go of the youngster in the summer as they haven’t made any comment on the rumours linking him with a summer move to the Emirates Stadium.
