Nacho Monreal could get his wish granted at extending his stay at the Emirates beyond this season.
Arsenal defender Nacho Monreal is raring to extend his stay at the Emirates.
The 32-year-old has entered the last run in his contract at the club and has yet to put pen to paper.
Monreal is happy at Arsenal and insists his relationship with the club has not gone south.
The Spanish international who joined Arsenal six years ago suggested that talks between his representatives and Gunners’ hierarchy has jolted to an impressive start and negotiations are still ongoing.
“At the moment we are talking with the club. I’ve always said I am really happy, I feel very happy playing for Arsenal.
“I came six years ago. I have a good relationship with them. We are in contact in any moment so don’t worry about that. I am happy here. That is the most important thing.”
Meanwhile, on his retirement, the 32-year-old laughed off coughed up suggestions he would hang his boots sooner.
The Spaniard said: “My idea is to play football until my body says ‘Nacho, so sorry but that’s the end’. But I think it is far [away]. I hope so.
“But at the moment I feel good so I am not thinking of my retirement.”
