Roma’s sporting director Monchi has dumped the Italian side by mutual consent, reports say.
Roma were knocked out of the Champions League after they were flogged heavily by Portuguese counterparts Porto on Wednesday night.
Monchi’s exit follows the axing of head coach Eusebio Di Francesco who was sacked following Roma’s surprising exit from the European Champions League.
It is no longer news the 50-year-old is being hunted by Arsenal who are on the hunt for a new sporting director after Sven Mislintat left the club.
Monchi’s exit will be music to the ears of Arsenal fans. The former Roma director of football packs enough experience under his belt for spotting out and recruiting talents.
And the cream of all these talks tying him to Arsenal is his strong work relationship with Gunners boss Unai Emery.
Monchi worked alongside with the Spaniard during his spells as Sevilla manager. And both of them produced the goods at the club trumping in three successive Europa League Cups between 2014-2016.
“I would like to thank President Pallotta, the club’s management, staff, players and fans for their support during my time at the club,” said Monchi. “I wish Roma a lot of success in the future.”
Meanwhile, ex-Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri is currently waiting in line to be appointed as Roma new head of coach, says Sky Sports.
