Monchi’s surprising, although not in a weird way, renouncement as Roma’s director of football has Arsenal leaping and dancing for joy.
The north Londoners will take big bold steps in signing the former Roma director who has been touted to replace former Gunners sporting director Sven Mislintat.
Mislintat left Arsenal after just one year inside the job due to disagreement over transfers.
If Gunners can successfully pick Monchi up as reports have been claiming about how close they are, it wouldn’t be the first time the Spaniard is working with Gunners boss Unai Emery.
Both men worked together during Emery’s spell as Sevilla boss. And the strong web of relationship they formed helped a Sevilla side become famous in European club football especially the Europa League.
Monchi is great at spotting out and recruiting talents especially those that who look like a diamond in the rough. The 50-year-old who spent 17 years as the Sevilla’s director of football earned big praises for profitable signings, including Dani Alves and Ivan Rakitic.
Gunners are yet to make any announcement over appointing Monchi, but it is understood he is the closest man to the position. He’s very likely to get it given his good and solid relationship with Emery and the reputation that precedes both men when reminded of what they achieved together at Sevilla.
