The players of Arsenal have a knack for picking up injuries when it matters most in the season and undeniably, this has somewhat accounted for their poor performance in the league.
Nonetheless, the Gunners have been lucky this term with injuries and Arsene Wenger will be hoping that a chunk of his key players stay fit as we head into the very tight festive fixtures of the season.
In the last two Premier league games, Arsenal have played with probably their best 11 as the absence of Danny Welbeck and Shkodran Mustafi was not really felt. The continue to be in the sidelines with the ambidextrous midfield schemer Santi Cazorla.
Cazorla has been on the sideline since last year having sustained a niggling injury and underwent a series of operations. Given his age, it will be difficult for him to be back to his best but he’s been sorely missed by all and sundry at Arsenal.
We take a look at the injured players and their possible return dates.
He’s out with an Achilles injury since the October of 2016. He’s expected back in the January of 2018.
Of Cazorla, Wenger said:
“The first signs are positive, but still he has not played for one and a half years.
“He is not in full training yet, he needs a few games with the reserve team. So I think if all goes well, it will be after Christmas.”
Ospina has a groin injury and he’s expected back in action for Arsenal in the Europa league game against Red Star Belgrade this week
He is back in full training after a hip injury. He is expected to play against Red Star Belgrade on Thursday.
Welbeck has a groin injury. He is expected back in action after the international break.
What Wenger said: “Welbeck has a groin problem, I think it will be two to three weeks before he is back. He will not be back before the international break.”
Mustafi picked up a groin injury while starring for Germany. He won’t be back before the international break.
