With both clubs desperately in need of a trusted goalkeeper, Jurgen Klopp and Arsene Wenger are ready to slug it out with themselves over the signature of Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak in the summer, this is according to report.
Arsene Wenger seems to have lost patience with his first-choice goalkeeper Petr Cech, who has been less impressive for the Gunners this season. Despite reaching a Premier League milestone as one of the goalkeepers with 200 Premier League clean sheets in last week against Watford, the Czech international has shown to Gunners faithfuls that there is a need for a new goalie after making lots of schoolboy errors throughout the campaign.
Wenger has been linked with a summer move for Chelsea target Alisson Becker who plays for AS Roma, but the Frenchman seems to have pulled out of the race for his signature as the Mirror suggest he is now keeping a close tab on Jan Oblak.
Oblak, 25, has been phenomenal for Diego Simeone’s side since his move to the club from Benfica in 2014. He has kept 18 clean sheets, conceding just 12 goals in his last 28 appearances for the team this season.
According to the Mirror, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is also in the race for the Slovenian international as he hopes to provide keen competition for Loris Karius who has shown some glimpse of brilliance while manning the post for the Reds this season.
Oblak is rated £88m according to Transfermarkt. This means both clubs should be ready to break their transfer record if they are willing to sign the World-class netminder in the summer transfer period.
