Arsenal in battle with Tottenham for the signing of Mourinho’s favourite
Arsenal are set to battle Capital rivals Tottenham Hotspur for the signature of out-of-favour Manchester United defender Eric Bailly, according to reports.
Bailly joined Manchester United from La Liga side Villarael as their marquee signing in the summer of 2016 and he was a regular for Mourinho. The player formed a solid and impenetrable defensive partnership with Smalling at the heart of the Red Devils defense.
He was involved in United’s pre-season games this term but somehow, the Ivorian has found himself lacking confidence and this has impended on his performance. His performance against Brighton and Newcastle United was questionable and it is difficult to see him command a regular shirt at United.
According to the Metro, the 24-year-old star feels marginalised by Jose Mourinho and he is considering to call time on his spell with the side.
With the January transfer window approaching, Mauricio Pochettino could make a move for him as he has an admirer of the player. Tottenham are uncertain of the future of Toby Alderweireld, they could go for the Ivorian as his replacement.
Meanwhile, The Daily Star also claims Unai Emery have known Bailly since his days in the La Liga and the Gunners could move to sign him in January.
United have also been linked with the signing of Alderweireld and other defenders and it they get one, it could smell the end of Bailly’s spell at the Theatre of Dreams.
