Arsenal are front-runners for the signature of Bayer Leverkusen wonderkid Kai Havertz, this is according to report.
Havertz started his career with Alemannia Mariadorf but he joined Bayer Leverkusen in 2010 as an 11-year-old and ascended the grades of the club. He made his debut for the Bundesliga side in the summer of 2016 when he came on as a substitute for Charles Aránguiz in a 2–1 Bundesliga loss to Werder Bremen.
Since then the youngster has grown in relevance at the club and has assumed a place in the first team of Bayer Leverkusen’s squad. His giants strides has not gone unnoticed around Europe as Liverpool and Southampton have signified interest in the star but Arsenal are said to be leading the chase for the attacking midfielder.
According to the Sun, Arsenal sent scouts to monitor the youngster as Germany’s U-19 side thumped Norway 5-2 last week.
Even if Havertz signs a deal with Arsenal, he will be a player for the future as he will not be able to dislodge the likes of Mesut Ozil and Jack Wilshere from the Gunners midfield. However, the youngster’s style of play has seen likened to Ozil as it is also given that he is a left footer that is technically gifted.
His current contract with Leverkusen will run until 2022 and he is currently valued at £15.8 million according to transfermarkt.
