Arsenal have confirmed that new signing Henrikh Mkhitataryan will don the squad no.7 Jersey formerly worn by Alexis Sanchez.
The Armenian was confirmed as an Arsenal player on Monday as they agreed a swap deal with Manchester United that saw Alexis Sanchez moved the opposite direction.
Despite failing to proof his mettle at Man United, Mkhi has joined Arsenal as a high profile signing and he is expected to step into the ‘big boot’ left by the departure of Alexis Sanchez. He has been handed the no.7 Jersey which was don by Sanchez since the departure of Tomas Rosicky in the summer of 2016.
Before Mkhi joined Manchester United in the summer of 2016, Arsene Wenger was known to be a staunch admirer of the 29-year-old. Arsenal play Chelsea in the Carabao Cup game on Wednesday but Mkhi will not be featuring as he is Cup tied but Wenger revealed that in Mkhi, Arsenal have captured a world class player.
‘We’re replacing a very good player with a very good player, a world-class player with a world-class player
— Arsenal FC (@Arsenal) January 23, 2018
‘Mkhitaryan can play on the wing or in midfield, so I believe he can play very well in many positions. ‘That can help us as well because he can play together with Ozil as well as playmaker, so overall it’s a good move. ‘He’s a very complete player. He creates chances, he defends well, he can absorb distances and he’s very committed as well. I must say he’s a player who has all the attributes.’
Despite completing the signing of Mkhi, Wenger confirmed earlier today that Arsenal are locked on negotiation with Borrussia Dortmund over a deal for Aubameyang.
Arsene Wenger has recieved tongue bashing for failing to compete both in the transfer market and on the pitch with rival Premier League club. If he eventually signs Auba, Arsenal would have gotten a star studded front line and the fans will be in for an exciting second half of the season.
