Arsenal defense have presented the main problem for their squad this term as they have failed to defend as much they have scored. The Gunners have scored only a less than Manchester United but have conceded more goals that Burnley and Newcastle United in seventh and 10th position on the Premier League log respectively.
Arsene Wenger is looking to remedy his leaky defense for the upcoming season, with reports claiming that Arsenal will make a move to sign long term transfer target Daniele Rugani.
Rugani joined Juventus in the summer of 2015 and he has been a regular feature for the side since then. The agent of the 23-year-old centre-back Davide Torchia revealed that Arsenal “expressed a liking” for the star in the January transfer window and now, Transfermarketweb have claimed that Arsenal have reignited interest in the player as they look to sign a replacement for the out of form Shkodran Mustafi.
The Italian centre-back was also a subject of interest from Manchester United in the January transfer window but he’ll fancy a move to Arsenal as he can easily slot into the first team of the London club.
Football Italia reported in January that Arsenal will have to fork out £25million to sign the player, who has three years left on his current contract. It is certain that will sign a centre-back in the summer transfer window but there is no telling if Rugani is the man.
In February his agent said: “Rugani is an international player. He could play in any league, so also in the UK.
“He’s young. Elegant in the way of playing. I know that various top European clubs follow him. Some are English.
“Arsenal? In the past, some seasons ago, we spoke with them. At the moment there is no official contact with them.
“He is happy at Juventus. He does not want to leave Turin. And he hopes to play continuously. However, if they were to receive a big offer for him, maybe he could be sold.”
