Arsenal beat Liverpool to sign German shot-stopper, announcement imminent

In the transfer window thus far, Arsenal new boss Unai Emery is winning the hearts of the Arsenal fans, and we hope he’ll be able to do same when the Premier league season officially kicks off.

According to latest report, Arsenal have beaten Liverpool to their signature of their long term transfer target Bernd Leno.

Emery has been charged with the responsibility of overhauling the Gunners defense, starting from the goalkeeping position. Leno was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal, Liverpool and Napoli and it was thought that he would end up wearing the gloves of the aforementioned Seria A side.

Alas, SportBild via the Metro reports that Arsenal have succeeded in prising the shot stopper away from Bayer Leverkusen. Sven Mislintat has been working around the meagre transfer budget of Arsenal and he has gotten this one for £20million.

Leno will come into the Arsenal team as a long term replacement for Petr Cech, whose form left so much to be desired last term. Cech will go into the final year of his contract with Arsenal next month and he is not expected to be given an extension.

Leno has been in barnstorming form for Leverkusen for a long time – the 26-year-old has kept 100 clean sheet since his debut for the Bundesliga side.
