The report emanating from the Emirates Stadium according to The Sun, suggests that Arsene Wenger remains keen on signing Napoli midfielder Jorginho this summer despite failing in his bid to lure the player to his side during the last transfer period.
With lots of speculation and uncertainty surrounding the future of Arsenal’s experienced midfielders like Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere, the club might be forced to make a big-money move for the Napoli star who has over 150 caps for the Serie A giants.
Though Wenger’s status is yet to be sorted out by the club’s hierarchy as they are hoping the Frenchman qualifies the team for next season’s Champions League competition. The North London club are willing to sign Jorginho irrespective of who becomes manager next season.
The Sun also reports that the Gunners might have to slug it out with top Premier League clubs including Manchester United and Manchester City for the player’s signature as both teams have sent their respective scouts to keep a close eye on Jorginho’s performance for the rest of the season.
The highly-rated midfielder is set to break Arsenal’s transfer record in the summer as he is valued at £60m by Napoli. He is believed to be a perfect replacement for either Granit Xhaka or Aaron Ramsey should the Welshman agree to end his longtime stay at the Emirates Stadium in the summer.
