The number of players signed by Chelsea could rise to seven after the club confirmed that three more players could move to Stamford Bridge before the end of this summer transfer window.
Antonio Conte has not been totally happy with his side’s performance in the transfer market and he is keen to bring in more players after watching his side lost on penalties to Arsenal in the Community Shield.
In the light of that, Chelsea are now ready to make an enquiry about Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk while two wing-backs are also wanted by the club.
Conte is highly interested in signing the Dutch centre-back and hopes to beat Liverpool to his signature, though Van Dijk seems to prefer a move to Anfield. The 26-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from the Saints and has officially submitted a transfer request yesterday.
However, Liverpool’s illegal pursuit of the defender months back appeared to have pitched Southampton against them and Chelsea aims to take advantage of that to lure Van Dijk to Stamford Bridge.
Meanwhile, Conte is also making attempts to sign two wing-backs. Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso have made the wing-backs their own but Conte wants more competition in those areas and he is targeting a number of players to that respect.
Conte has Arsenal winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Everton’s Ross Barkley, Inter Milan’s Antonio Candreva as well as Swansea’s Fernando Llorente on his transfer list. Reports also said Chelsea are already in talks with Paris-Saint Germain over a possible £27 million move for Serge Aurier.
