Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has sent a warning shot to new signing Alvaro Morata, telling him to improve upon his game after the Blues were thumped by Seria A side Inter Milan.
After much transfer saga between Chelsea, Man United and Real Madrid, Morata switched the Santiago Bernabeu for Stamford Bridge in a £58million deal and he is expected to be the man to lead the Blues in their title defence campaign next season.
Morata is yet to score in the colours of Chelsea but he was given his second run for them in their pre-season game against Inter Milan. Michy Batshuayi led the attack of the Blues and Morata was played from an unfamiliar left side of attack but Conte appears to be unhappy with his show-off.
“Morata is having training with us and for sure he has to improve a lot his physical condition to go quickly to the idea of our football,” said Conte.
“But he is working very well and today he tried to do his best but for sure he has to improve.”
The Blues had thumped Arsenal 3-0 in a thrilling pre-season encounter but they have now lost two games back to back. Conte has blamed their loses on the quality of opposition.
He added: ”
“We played against two strong teams – Bayern Munich and Inter Milan – in a period for us that is very important because we are working very hard.
“And for sure to play three games with the same players means they are very tired.
“We have to continue to work and that is all. The results don’t change that.”
There is no need going nuts over pre-season games but the community shield will be played this week and the new season kicks-off next week.
Meanwhile, Morata was uncomfortable playing from the flank. He will be deployed as a centre-forward when Hazard returns to the fold. However, the Spaniard may need time to adapt to the physicality and rigours of the Premier League.
