Antonio Conte reveals Bakayoko may not be starting for Chelsea

Despite the length of the summer break, Chelsea will go into the new season without some key players but the cheering news is the fact that they will not be absent for long.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has delivered the latest injury update on Eden Hazard and Tiemoue Bakayoko, according to reports.

Eden Hazard sustained an ankle injury while staring for the Belgian national team. The player was left out of the Blues squad that toured the far East but he has returned to training but is short of fitness as they step up preparation for the upcoming season.

Meanwhile Bakayoko picked up a knee injury at the end of last season while leading Monaco to the Ligue 1 trophy. He has not started training with the Premier League Champions and he is certain to miss the start of the season.

Speaking about the players, Conte said:

“It is difficult to say because arrive after a bad injury, after ankle surgery, it is not easy to programme the date to come back. We hope for them to recover very well. Their is recovering very well. You know the importance of these players.

“We will not rush them back as every player must be in the best of form to play, otherwise they are put in a bad position which could be damaging for the team.

“Bakayoko is in a similar position like Eden. For me it is very important to the players to understand my idea of football. For Bakayoko, for example, at the moment he doesn’t know anything about my idea of football.

“For sure, he needs a bit of time to adapt and understand and this is the great difficulty for a coach that has an idea of football and wants to give an identity.

“When you take a player you need a bit of time to bring the player into your idea. It is the same now for Morata and for Rudiger. For sure, if the player arrives as soon as possible, it is easy for me.”

Given the claims of Conte, Bakayoko will not just have to return to training, he has to understand the philosophy of his football.

Going into the upcoming season, Chelsea are apparently threadbare in the middle of the pack with Cesc Fabregas and N’golo Kante as the only quality options in midfield.

However, Chelsea have promoted Charly Musonda to the first team and this might be an opportunity for the youngster star to stake a claim in the team of Chelsea.

We hope they return on time.
