Chelsea’s lifeblood at the middle of the park has always been France international N’golo Kante. When Antonio Conte was given the boot in July, new boss Sarri brought in Jorginho, taking Kante to a more advanced position.
Now, Chelsea’s centre rest on the back foot of midfield duo N’golo Kante and summer signing Jorginho.
Kante’s current contract at Stamford Bridge expires in 2021. Talks of tying 27-year-old down with a new contract was said to have gone underway in July, however it was not concreete.
French outfit Paris Saint-Germain have long held interest in the World Cup star and had planned a big summer swoop for Kante, which never materialised.
Chelsea are reportedly aware of the fragility of the situation surrounding his contract and are ready to step up his pay check. He has been linked with a move to Man United.
The 150,000-pounds-a-week player will be handed 290-000-pounds-a-week as the Blues remain adamant in pinning him down at Stamford Bridge and warding off interests from Paris Saint-Germain.
Negotiations over the new wage will be completed in few weeks, and when that is finally done, Kante will be up there at the top of the Blues book as the club’s highest earner.
The new deal was touted to span five years. Should Kante pen his signature under that deal, fans will no doubt leap for joy, given how much he’s shaped the club’s centre since his arrival in 2016.
